BREAKING: ALAN GARBER ’76 TO SERVE AS HARVARD’S 31ST PRESIDENT UNTIL JUNE 2027
Alan M. Garber, class of 1976, will serve as Harvard's 31st president until June 2027. With breaking news from the Harvard Crimson, I'm Frank Zhou. Garber, an economist, physician, and Harvard's longtime provost, had suddenly risen to become the university's interim leader this January amid Harvard's worst leadership crisis in decades. He sought to steer Harvard through it ever since. In an email to Harvard affiliates Friday, the Harvard Corporation, the university's highest and famously secretive governing board, announced that Garber had done a, quote, outstanding job leading Harvard through extraordinary challenges for the past 7 months. It announced that it would delay a formal presidential search for his successor until 2026. The Crimson is committed to providing detailed coverage of all of this and more.
